Last night I watched Silence, a Martin Scorsese film set in 17th century feudal Japan. I zoned out a few times thinking about how to recreate the character’s textile patterns with Python & Drawbot. I gave it a shot when the movie ended.
Recreating Duchamp’s “LHOOQ” with Python & Drawbot
It’s true that all tools can be considered templates, to some extent, because of their direct influence on the final output, but it’s good to be aware of that, and at peace with it, if possible. Using a programming language has given me a new set of tools to create images I’d never conceive of creating with InDesign, Photoshop, or Illustrator, simply because they don’t allow for them to exist.
Getting started with Python & Drawbot
Learning how to write “creative code” has been on my bucket list for a long time. During the past few weeks I’ve been attending a Python and Drawbot workshop and I’m finally getting the hang of a few things. Here are a few exports from a self-initiated exercise.
Drawing a Simple Gradient Grid with Python & Drawbot
